Practitioners Meeting Overview

Confluence Practitioners are grantmakers seeking to build the effectiveness of philanthropy through the field of mission-related and impact investing.

This three-day meeting is open to members of the Confluence Practitioners’ Program and invited guests specifically interested in fostering strategic thinking and collaboration. We welcome donors, foundation leaders, their staff, and advisors who are interested in exploring participation in our community.

Seminars are led by funder-practitioners and financial experts. Participation in Tuesday Seminars involves an additional cost that includes lunch.

Day One "Tuesday Seminars"

  • Day One's Seminars provide participants with practical learning through a series of workshops that are focused this year around proxy-voting in co-mingled funds and conducting due diligence on below-market rate investments. Following a networking lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to discussion and sharing about the challenges of practicing mission-related investing within family philanthropy.
  • Day One concludes with a funder-only reception at Ginny's Supper Club and a selection of thematic dinners to be held at nearby restaurant venues. With a hat tipped to Harlem’s Renaissance, Ginny’s Supper Club is a modern reincarnation of the glamorous speakeasies and Harlem nights of the Twenties – an intimate lounge with creative cocktails, soulful food, and inclusive spirit. The reception is open to Funders-only. Those interested in attending this networking event only are welcome to join at a ticketed price.

Day Two, Funder-Only Day

  • Day Two, Funder-Only Day, will focus on building dialogue among foundation leaders.  This days opens with a provocative keynote and plenary session that explores how funders can use mission-related investing as a solutions-oriented approach to some of the most entrenched social and environmental issues of our time and is followed by a series of break-out sessions around themes related to the economy, community investment, and regionalism. This day is open to invited guest speakers and funders-only.

  • In the evening of day two, there will be a plenary and networking dinner for financial advisors. Conference attendees will be joined by their financial advisors for this very special event at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. This evening is open to all conference registrants and to invited guests. Please note that only one representative per financial institution will be welcomed in order to maintain the overall integrity of the event.

Day Three, Financial Advisors Day

  • During day three, Financial Advisors Day, attendees are encouraged to invite their financial advisors to join us for a series of issue-based discussions led by leading fund managers and resource experts from the field. We welcome financial advisors and money managers who are accompanied by a client. Funder-attendees are requested to participate for both days.
