Confluence is a philanthropic affinity group available to foundations, grantmakers, and individual donors. We are a membership-based organization that depends on dues and philanthropic support to fulfill our mission.
Our goal is to build a vibrant community of practice where Foundations and individual donors work together to accelerate the field of mission-related investing. We strongly encourage collaboration, resource sharing, and leadership development.
We achieve this by providing over 20 educational events annually, including a three-day annual conference, and several thematic working groups. Confluence leads an intensive yearlong Fellowship training program for Trustees under 35 years of age in partnership with Resource Generation.
In addition to the expected benefits of affinity group participation, members are invited to join forces with one another through collaborative program-related investment funds, shareholder engagement campaigns, research, and special projects initiated by members.
Confluence is composed of two main tiers of membership for Funders: Basic Members and Practitioners. Both groups have the ability to interact within a dynamic online community and have access to the membership directory and referrals database. Members are eligible to participate in free workshops, learning calls, and webinars, and receive discounts to impact-investing events co-sponsored by Confluence.
Financial institutions are invited to participate in our membership through the Advisors Bay Program.
Our Basic Membership is for foundations and individual donors who are beginning to engage in mission-related investing strategies and are looking to make an institutional commitment.
Practitioners Membership is for foundations and donors who have made an institutional commitment to mission-related investing and are seeking a community of practice that emphasizes strategic collaboration. Participation in the Practitioners Program requires an application process which is reviewed quarterly by the Confluence Board of Directors.
We welcome philanthropic affinity groups to join Confluence by posting a profile page on our site. Affinity group membership is free of charge.
Working Groups and Learning Cohorts
Confluence coordinates a number of thematic working groups and learning cohorts. These are initiated by members for the purposes of learning and strategic development. Typically, participation in working groups is complimentary, although at least Basic Membership is encouraged. Enrollment in Learning Cohorts, Retreats, and Learning Tours requires tuition in the given program. Priority in all programs is given to dues-paying members.
Financial advisors and consultants are not eligible to join working groups, although, individual events may be open to non-funder participation through client relationships.
Please visit the other areas of the website for the most recent listings and descriptions of groups.
Advisors Bay Membership for Financial Professionals and Non Profits
Confluence offers membership to financial institutions (either for profit or non profit) and investors networks through a unique program called Advisors Bay. Membership requires an application that includes three references from philanthropic institutions or donors. Advisors Bay Members do not have direct access to Confluence's other members, but can exchange information through Confluence and partner on educational initiatives. Please see the Advisors Bay area of the website for a full description of this special program.
