Webinar: Know Your Oil: Introducing a New Oil-Climate Index

Tuesday, July 21

9:00-10:30 am PDT/12:00-1:30 pm EST/5:00-6:30 pm GMT

Know Your Oil: Introducing a New Oil-Climate Index

Virtually all foundations and donors are invested in the energy sector: in oil, coal, renewable energy, or more likely –a diversified mixture of the three. Within the oil industry alone, there are multiple types, including tight shale oil, oil sands, heavy oils, ultra-deep oils, depleting oils, oil shale, and an expanding array of hydrocarbons, some of which are more harmful than others. With the mounting urgency climate change presents, investors are reexamining energy investments and their relative impact on climate. Investors of all types are increasingly searching for smarter investments that help to reduce risk as well as the environmental impacts of our energy systems.

Please join Confluence Philanthropy for a webinar conversation about the first-of-its-kind Oil-Climate Index, developed by The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Stanford University, and the University of Calgary. New data provided by the Oil-Climate Index will influence how consumers, investors, industries, NGOs, and policymakers approach current and future oil production, refining, and consumption.

There will be ample time for Q & A with our expert panelists from The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Stanford University, and the Rockefeller Family Fund.

Speakers:

  • Heidi Binko, Associate Director of Special Climate Initiatives, Rockefeller Family Fund (Moderator)

  • Deborah Gordon, Director of the Energy and Climate Program at The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

  • Jonathan Koomey, Professor, Stanford University
