Teleconference: Investing in Sustainable Food Systems (Working Session)

June 2, 2016 at 10:00-11:00 am PST / 1:00-2:00 pm EST

There are over two million farms covering nearly a billion acres in the US. Members within the Confluence community have expressed concern that an oftentimes unsustainable industrial agriculture and food production system can result in detrimental environmental, social and public health impacts. This teleconference will discuss direct investments and loans for regenerative agriculture, an organic farming method that rebuilds and nourishes soils. This conversation deepens the discussion that began during the “Local Food System Investing In The U.S.” session at the 2016 Practitioner’s Gathering.

During the call, investors and philanthropists will share challenges, promising new investment structures, co-investment trends, and innovative partnerships. This conversation is geared toward investors who are actively involved in, or seriously considering, direct investment or loans to promote regenerative agriculture.

Discussants:

  • Don Shaffer, President & CEO, RSF Social Finance (Moderator)
  • Jen Astone, Executive Director, Swift Foundation
  • Kate Danaher, Senior Manager of Social Enterprise and Integrated Capital, RSF Social Finance
  • Erin Eisenberg, Director of Philanthropy, TomKat Foundation
  • Esther Park, CEO, Cienega Capital
