Confluence Philanthropy is a non-profit, membership-based association of foundations, high-net- worth investors and their investment advisors who collaborate in Mission-Related Investing (MRI), the process of integrating investment strategy with social and/or environmental goals. Position Overview

The Development Manager role offers development, planning, and communications responsibilities with opportunities for growth. Confluence seeks a high-energy, detail-oriented, and entrepreneurial individual motivated by the idea of growing a cutting-edge organization. Strong interpersonal skills, exceptional writing, as well as the ability to organize and implement systems are key skills required to succeed in this position. Key responsibilities include grant writing, the creation of marketing materials and other collateral, and membership recruitment. The Development Manager is evaluated based upon both quantitative and qualitative annual targets.

Reports to: Managing Director
Compensation: $70-80K
Location: Oakland, CA
Commitment: Must be available between 9 AM – 6PM PT Monday through Friday in our Oakland office. Flexibility to work some evenings or on the weekend when needed for events or to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

Development

Grant Writing: Working with the CEO and Program Team, draft, review, edit and compile grant applications, case statements or letters of intent; Conduct literature reviews, research background information, and other required data for proposal development; Identify and research potential grant opportunities; Maintain accuracy and integrity of data systems; help craft and execute upon the annual development plan to support programmatic work.

Reporting: Working with the program team, generate narrative content for reporting using compelling member stories, data and other information provided by our program staff, and infographics. Author the organization’s annual report, grant reports and other materials.

Report & Proposal Tracking: Organize and track report and proposal deadlines. Coordinate with team members to gather content and material needed to deliver on-time proposal and report submissions.

Member Recruitment & Engagement

Member Recruitment: Aid in membership recruitment and development; manage agenda for team recruitment meetings. Manage internal prospect tracking systems; collaborate on outreach strategies for event recruitment and engagement; and contribute to meeting annual new member recruitment goals.

Corporate Sponsorships: Draft and design sponsorship materials and solicitations.

Marketing

Conference Marketing: Author promotional content for website, conference materials and other platforms as needed.

External Marketing: Draft content for web and print to promote Confluence’s brand, mission, programs and events; Research, write or produce program updates and impact stories for publications, website, videos, 1-page highlights, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Experience with development and communications in the finance/business sector and general knowledge of impact investing is preferred.
  • Degree in business, marketing, communications, or equivalent experience, graduate preferred At least five years of professional experience in a related field
  • Ability to organize ideas, synthesize information and turn objectives and messages into compelling and succinct narratives for philanthropic support.
  • Attention to detail, highly organized, efficient, with a self-directed work style.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure, with patience and a sense of humor.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Displays exceptional time-management as needed for meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental and social investing and/or innovations in the philanthropic, financial or social enterprise sectors.
  • Comfortable with the use of technology, including social media platforms.
