Our Village Flash Talks & Reception: An Evening of Global Climate Leadership

Our Village Flash Talks & Reception
An Evening of Global Climate Leadership
Monday, September 23rd | 5:30 – 9:00 pm
Convened with If Not Us Then Who, Hip Hop Caucus, & Global Alliance of Territorial Authorities
in partnership with
AMPB (MesoAmerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests), COICA (Coordinator of Organisations in the Amazon Basin), AMAN (Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago - Indonesia), APIB (Brazilian Articulation of Indigenous Peoples) #Guardiansoftheforest and Ford Foundation

Join us for an evening of learning, connection, and entertainment. We are presenting a program of dynamic “flash talks” from indigenous leaders, people of color, philanthropic organizations, and thought leaders who are on the frontlines of advocacy for and implementation of community based climate solutions.

All around the world indigenous peoples and communities of color are responding to the climate crisis with powerful resilience, innovative action, and a spirit that can profoundly impact our world. Indigenous peoples uphold many of the planet’s healthiest ecosystems, rich in biodiversity and systems essential to global food, fresh water, and climate security. They are the best guardians of their cultures’ vital birthplaces, and supporting indigenous peoples rights and livelihoods is critical to the health of our planet. The demands of indigenous peoples together with principles of Environmental Justice forged by leadership from communities of color, ‘Our Village’ presents five demands as a foundation to solving the climate crisis:

  • Ending Violence and Criminalization
  • Ownership and Recognition
  • Consent and Community driven decision making
  • Respect Ancestral Knowledge and Cultural Leadership
  • Direct Funding and Finance
