Green bonds were created to enable investment in projects with environmental benefits, and are now being issued by a range of diverse entities. It is no surprise then, that many mission-driven investors seek a deeper understanding of this rapidly developing market. According to The Climate Bonds Initiative, the green bond market accelerated quickly in 2014 with $36.6bn issued; triple the amount issued in 2013 ($11bn). For foundations and other asset owners, green bonds offer a fixed-income opportunity to invest in climate solutions and encourage sustainable development across a spectrum of green projects. However, some questions remain surrounding the risk of “green-washing,” and how exactly a “green” bond should be defined.
Please join Confluence Philanthropy for a webinar conversation about U.S.-based and international green bonds, why a foundation might want them in their portfolio, and what contentious issues remain. There will be ample time for Q & A with our expert panelists from As You Sow, The Croatan Institute, and Credit Suisse.
This webinar is cosponsored by Divest-Invest: Philanthropy, and the Croatan Institute.
Participation in this event is open to funders and Confluence Philanthropy Advisor Bay Members only, and is not open to grantseeking organizations or investment firms seeking to fundraise.
