Racial Equity Retreat

Participation by Invitation Only

Impact investors talk a lot about equity, however, less than 3% of VC funds employ black and Latino investment professionals and black founders receive just 1% of VC funding. Meanwhile, less than 3.5% of Certified Financial Planners (CFPs) are black or Latino. Across the industry, people of color are absent from top leadership positions and shut out from industry shifting positions of influence. As an investor network representing over $70 billion in philanthropic assets and over $3 trillion in managed capital, Confluence Philanthropy is in a position to improve these numbers. However, we need your help in developing an effective strategy to do so.

Retreat participants will be Confluence members, including institutional investors and asset managers, who are both passionate about shifting the investment industry and experienced with social and racial equity issues. We will focus on sharing analytical research and personal experience, building a collective vision, and recommended actions. The group’s deliverable is a set of recommendations for the Confluence Board of Directors and the broader industry.

To ensure that we properly define our objectives, include diverse perspectives, and succeed in building a strategic work plan for the Racial Equity Initiative, Gregory Hodge will facilitate the event. Erika Seth Davies will support Gregory as facilitator and share learnings from the research she’s carried out for Confluence thus far. The final take-aways will be shared at the Practitioners Gathering in Brooklyn, NY on Thursday March 7, 2019.
