In advance of NYC Climate Week, Confluence Philanthropy’s Climate Solutions Collaborative (C2C) is offering discussions on the tools shaping the landscape for Net Zero investing. The purpose of these sessions is to elevate the latest levers available to values-aligned investors and advisors in the race to meet the Paris Agreement, limiting warming to 1.5°C and preventing the worst impacts from climate change. Topics will explore what is needed to address climate and advance justice, how to leverage the cumulation of federal investments, where litigation can be used as a tool, and how two foundations are thinking about Net Zero commitments. We hope you will join us!
Meeting Agenda:
Welcome
Noon ET - 12:10
Dana Lanza, President & CEO, Confluence Philanthropy
Policy to Practice: Leveraging the Suite of Federal Investments to Address Climate Change
12:15 - 1:15PM ET
By law and Executive Order the federal government has unlocked hundreds of billions of dollars to mitigate climate change. But the devil is in the details. How those monies are utilized will determine how the United States meaningfully reduces GHG emissions while meeting the Administration’s new equity goals. Ultimately, we must reach the Paris Agreement target. This session will look at how the mechanisms in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Defense Production Act Executive Order, CHIPS and Science Law, and Inflation Reduction Act can be leveraged by values aligned investors.
Moderator: Mijo Vodopic, Senior Program Officer, McArthur Foundation
Speakers:
Full Court Press: A Look at the State of Climate Litigation
1:20 - 1:55PM ET
The courts are too often overlooked as a meaningful tool to address climate change, but the ramifications are huge. This session will put the U.S. Supreme Court’s EPA decision into context and discuss innovative approaches that use litigation to advance climate solutions, including opportunities for values-aligned investing.
Moderator: Benjamin Fox, Associate, Morrison & Foerster
