Responding to the Polarizing Attacks on ESG Analytics and Values Aligned Investing

Right-wing populists and values aligned industry skeptics have mounted concerning attacks against Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) analytics. The surrounding controversy is part of a coordinated conservative backlash proclaiming that ESG is a political ruse imposed on the free market by ‘woke’ liberals. This is not just hyperbole. Real world implications are taking hold in some red states – limiting the ability of investors to consider material risks through an ESG lens. In Texas government entities are now banned from doing business with firms that reduce or cut their investments in the fossil fuel industry, and the Florida State Board of Administration's pension fund is restricted from considering ESG framed risks within their due diligence processes.

Join us for a member-only virtual discussion as we explore how the Confluence community has responded thus far, and how you can join a workstream and lend your weight in countering this aggression.

Speakers:

  • Andrew Behar, CEO, As You Sow
  • Meredith Benton, Founder, Whistle Stop Capital
  • Margot Brandenburg, Senior Program Officer of Mission Investments, Ford Foundation
  • Stephanie Cohn-Rupp, CEO & Partner, Veris Wealth Partners (moderator)
