The November United Nations COP26 climate talks in Glasgow launch global markets into “The Decisive Decade of Delivery.” The climate clock is ticking louder than ever, and we have the next eight years to make deep structural changes if we hope to avert the worst ecological consequences of a planet tipped past resource constraints. The time is now to deliver real solutions that protect as much life as possible. Grounding decision-making in science cuts through all the human complexity providing clarity about the tough decisions – and enormous opportunities – before us.
This seminar will apply hard data and advanced modeling to build on the results and implications of the COP26 climate talks. As part of Confluence’s Call to Net Zero, this session encourages investors and their investment managers to ground commitments and investment decisions in science-based targets and pathways. There will be four discussion-based presentations about: 1) systems modeling for the UNFCC process for emissions reductions; 2) a microeconomic approach to investor risks; 3) a projection of what the years 2100 - 2500 will, or will not, hold for planet Earth; 4) setting science-based targets.
Participants will have 20 minutes in small group discussion with each of the four presenters, cycling through four presentations over the course of the seminar. We will return for large group reflection with our moderator, Cynthia Cummins of the Science Based Targets Initiative and World Resources Institute.
To set the stage, participants will be encouraged to preview the 2100-2500 report, and read or listen to the real science fiction novel: The Ministry For the Future.
Values-driven investors have an enormous responsibility to consider future generations in capital deployment right now. Join us to gain some of the sharpest tools available.
Moderator:
Cynthia Cummis, Director of Private Sector Climate Mitigation, World Resources Institute
Speakers:
Andrew Jones, Co-Director, Climate Interactive
Dr. Terence Thompson, Chief Science Officer, The Climate Service
Lindsay Stringer, Professor of Environment and Development, University of York, UK
