Meeting the Moment: How Values-Aligned Investors Advance Democracy

Member Only Virtual Event

This past season’s attacks on ESG frameworks, alongside Supreme Court rulings that challenge our fundamental assumption of modern democratic ideals, have brought conversation about the future of democracy to the forefront within philanthropy and the values-aligned investing industry. A week following the U.S. midterm elections we will host member discussion about how we meet this moment as grantmakers, as investment managers, and most importantly, as leaders that care enormously about people and the planet. We all feel the urgent need for a response, but how do we meet this unprecedented moment?

We are hosting three didactic discussions along this theme: the first among two powerful foundation presidents; the legal perspective on potential Congressional action against ESG investments, and the third among thought leaders in corporate accountability and political spending.

Participants will leave the discussion with impassioned ideas and a variety of clear opportunities to participate in collective responses.

The discussion will be moderated by Dana Lanza, President & CEO, Confluence Philanthropy

Philanthropy Meets This Moment to Protect Democracy

  • Carmen Rojas, President and CEO, Marguerite Casey Foundation
  • Larry Kramer, President, Hewlett Foundation

Legal Perspective: New Fronts on the “War on ESG”- GOP Senators Propose Action
